Master The Marathon: The Instructors

posted on Monday, 3rd March 2014 | find under TamaraFitness
Held at 6:30pm on Wed 12th March in our Islington boutique, this month’s Guest Instructor Event 'Master The Marathon' is a can’t-miss for runners. Not just one, but two elite instructors will combine their skills to get you perfectly marathon-ready with a detailed talk, Q&A session and an exclusive 'Yoga For Runners' class.

PART 1: MARATHON MASTER CLASS

Personal trainer and ultra-runner Annie Foulds shares her expertise and last-minute training advice ahead of the London marathon. Her one-hour master class includes a Q&A session; a great opportunity to have your running questions and help achieve your personal best.

MEET ANNIE...

I first became interested in fitness when...I was a child. Dreaming of becoming a dancer, I trained in tap, ballet, jazz, and contemporary dance until the age of 18, when my passion switched to the sport. Athletics, netball, and running became my forte, and I went on enter fitness competitions.

My experience in the fitness industry spans...more than 20 years. With qualifications in sport psychology, fitness training, spinning, nutrition & weight management, physiology, pre, and post-natal exercise, and more, I am also an accomplished ultra marathon runner, ex-professional dancer, and fitness model.

My #1 tip for marathon runners is... prepare and start slowly>

PART 2: YOGA FOR RUNNERS

After Annie's talk, attendees can take part in Battersea Ambassador Charlie Morgan’s ‘Yoga for Runners’ class - a 45-minute session tailored to runners and dedicated to improving strength, tone and flexibility.

A CHAT WITH CHARLIE...

I first became interested in fitness...when I was growing up. I learned to swim before I could walk and went to a specialist sports school aged 12, where I enjoyed hockey, netball, athletics, trampolining, and gymnastics. My passion for fitness continued into adulthood, growing to include cross-country skiing, spinning, Pilates, yoga, and water sports.

Yoga became my career when...I realized I was too restless for a desk job! After quitting my job as a buyer, I traveled to India for a yoga retreat in the Himalayan mountains. Almost immediately, I knew the practice was going to be an integral part of my life. Six months later, I completed my training as a yoga teacher in Bali, and I've never looked back!

My workout of choice is...a brief full-body stretch, followed by a 30-60 minute run along the river and a good session on my yoga mat, with a deep relaxation to finish.

Yoga is great for runners because...while running gives you a great cardiovascular workout, your muscles become extremely tight which leaves you more prone to injury. 'Yoga For Runners' focuses on the key muscles used while running, enabling you to run at greater ease and for much longer. Conscious breathing techniques will also have a huge impact on your general running ability.

Can't make the class? A video of the Yoga For Runners class will be posted
here on Thursday 13th March, so you can reap the marathon benefits from the comfort of home.
